Eye Test
It is important to have an eye test at least once a year if you wear Contact Lenses. Should you feel any discomfort with your eyes or experience a change in vision, a visit to your local Optician is recommended. |
Prescription
As Contact lenses are medical devices which should only be prescribed by qualified eye-care professionals, a prescription is always required (even for coloured lenses) because they should be trialled and fitted especially for you. They can be prescribed to assist people suffering from poor vision due to conditions such as far or near sightedness, astigmatism or presbyopia. Spherical, bifocal and toric contact lenses are all prescription lenses and should not be worn unless prescribed by an optician. |
Prescription Information
A prescription for eyeglasses will have details of the sphere, cylinder and axis of the lens, while you will also need to know the base curve and diameter for prescription lenses. The powers and base curves will be looked at but also the material of the lenses must be suitable for your eye. You will also need to know their brand name, material and water content.

Optician's Recommendation
Your optician can advise you what brand prescription lenses are most suitable for you and by sticking to their recommendation (regardless of how cheap some other lenses may seem in comparison) you will avoid using brands which might not suit your eye. |
